Set up DNS at IONOS

Add the eoinbox DNS records to a domain managed at IONOS.

Menus change. IONOS updates its dashboard from time to time, so button and menu names may differ slightly from this guide. Look for the DNS settings of your domain; the records you need are always the same. Your eoinbox dashboard shows the exact values and checks them for you.

Find the DNS settings

  1. Sign in to your IONOS account.
  2. Open Domains & SSL from the menu.
  3. Click the gear icon (or the ... menu) next to your domain and choose DNS.
  4. Click Add record and choose the record type.

Filling in the form

  • Host name: @ for the domain itself, otherwise the name from the table, such as _dmarc or eo1._domainkey.
  • Points to / Value: the value or target from the table, without quotes.
  • MX: mx1.eoinbox.com with priority 10, and mx2.eoinbox.com with priority 20.
  • SRV: IONOS asks for Service (_imaps, _submissions or _jmap), Protocol (TCP), Host name @, Points to mail.eoinbox.com, Priority 0, Weight 1 and Port.
  • TTL: the default is fine.

Conflicting IONOS mail records

If the domain was used with IONOS email, IONOS has MX records pointing to its own servers (mx00.ionos..., mx01.ionos...) and an SPF record. When you add our MX records, IONOS may warn that existing records will be replaced or that the domain is in use by an IONOS product. Only confirm once you are ready to switch, and after importing any mail you want to keep.

Merge include:spf.eoinbox.com into the existing SPF record instead of creating a second one.
